Celebrating a Special Evening with Girl Scout Troop 8606

WK Girl Scouts Singing

We are proud to be one of two senior living communities in Wisconsin to follow the Eden Alternative philosophy.

The Eden Alternative is a remarkable philosophy dedicated to remaking the aging experience. One aspect of the Eden Alternative is to incorporate intergenerational activities where residents at LindenGrove and youth in the community can form connections.

A great example of this is our relationship with Girl Scout Troop 8606 from Bethesda Elementary School and our assisted living residents at our Waukesha location. The troop has visited and socialized with our residents monthly since last fall.

During that time, the scouts and residents made friendship bracelets, did a photo booth, created sensory goo bottles, played bingo and other games, crafted, planted flowers, participated in manicures, and more. Over time, some of the girls and residents have formed lasting relationships by becoming pen pals and plan to keep in touch.

Earlier this week, this incredible troop bridged over to the next level and became Girl Scout Cadettes. And they decided to hold their special ceremony right here at our Waukesha campus, so all our residents could attend. It was an extremely special night – one that we were honored to be part of!

Our residents honored the girls’ achievement with handmade cards signed by everyone. Gloria, a former Girl Scout herself, even got up and joined the troop in singing the scout song “Make New Friends.” The celebration was filled with laughter, smiles and good conversation. Our residents and staff members, alike, will remember this evening for years to come.

We are so proud to have so many great connections with area youth – such as Girl Scout Troop 8606 – to ensure our residents remain young in spirit, form friendships and have a chance to offer wisdom to younger generations.
